Signal Processing
   - A lot of the cortex and other parts of the brain are for
       signal processing.
 
   - That is, it processes the signals from the senses.
 
   - We (scientists) understand this stuff relatively well, because animals 
       do pretty much the same thing we do.
 
   - We can stick electrodes in animals (e.g. cats, rats and monkeys) 
       and see what the neurons do when particularly stimuli is presented.
 
   - We can also take out that bit of the brain, and do in vitro experiments.
   
 
   - We can even grow human brain tissue.
 
   - For example, we know that the hair cells in our ears (neurons) respond
       to tone specific waves. So you have neurons for middle C, and different
       neurons for high C.
 
   - I made a model that recognised vowells from this kind of input. 
       (That's not very sophisticated.)
