Size: how big is big?

• The data from the digits was 5620x65x2 bytes which is less than a megabyte.
• kilobyte ~= 1000 bytes
• megabyte ~= 1,000,000 bytes
• gigabyte ~= 1,000,000,000 bytes
• terabyte ~= 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. My new laptop has a 2 TB Harddisk.
• petabyte ~= 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes.
• exabyte ~= 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes. That's 1,000,000 TBs. That's one quintillion bytes.
• zettabyte ~= 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes.
• There's an estimate that we will produce a zettabyte of data this year. Oddly, my source from three years ago said 40 zettabytes, and last year's also said a zettabyte.
• Space telescope and genome data is on the petabyte scale.
