Dialogue and Conversational Systems

• Dialogue or conversation is a relatively hot topic.
• It involves a conversation either between two or more people, which the computer analyzes,
• or a conversation between a computer and a human, which involves a really smart computer.
• Note that the Turing test is the benchmark for an AI.
  • A human, a computer, and a human interogator are placed in 3 separate rooms and communicate via chat. If the interogator can't figure out which is the computer, the computer is intelligent.
  • No machine has yet to pass it.
  • It's a conversation.
  • The first machine to pass this test will win the Loebner Prize. There are annual competitions.
• There are extra things to keep track of in a dialogue than in a sentence.
• To some extent the program needs a purpose, which has to be implemented.
• Perhaps the best work in conversational agents is done James Allen and the at the University of Rochester
