Dialogue and Conversational Systems
- Dialogue or conversation is a relatively hot topic.
- It involves a conversation either between two or more people, which
the computer analyzes,
- or a conversation between a computer and a human, which
involves a really smart computer.
- Note that the Turing test is the benchmark for an AI.
- A human, a computer, and a human interogator are placed
in 3 separate rooms and communicate via chat. If the
interogator can't figure out which is the computer, the
computer is intelligent.
- No machine has yet to pass it.
- It's a conversation.
- The first machine to pass this test will win the
Loebner Prize. There are annual competitions.
- There are extra things to keep track of in a dialogue than
in a sentence.
- To some extent the program needs a purpose, which has to
be implemented.
- Perhaps the best work in conversational agents is done
James Allen and the
at the University of Rochester
