Defaults

• Frames can be used for Default reasoning.
• The sentence might be Sandy ate. which is represented by the frame

  Eat
  Actor	Sandy

• What did Sandy eat? What did he eat with? The default eat frame could answer this

  Eat
  Actor
  Object	Food
  Instrument	Knife and Fork

• Combining the two gives

  Eat
  Actor	Sandy
  Object	Food
  Instrument	Knife and Fork

• The default can be overriden when you have a sentence like Sandy ate dirt, you get

  Eat
  Actor	Sandy
  Object	dirt
  Instrument	Knife and Fork

• This is similar to the Script concept developed by, among others, Schank.
• Scripts are about longer stories, for example the restaturant script or the birthday party script.
