What is Intelligence?
- We all have a sense of what intelligence means, but
it really is an ill defined concept.
- It has something to do with information and capability.
- You can say that a person is more intelligent than a dog,
and get large agreement.
- IQ is a rough way of measuring it, but even the standard IQ
test has several subtests.
- Artificial Intelligence is related, but what would it mean
to have an AI.
- Lots of products say they have AI, but no one would say
they are intelligent in the sense of you and I being intelligent.
- We can develop better systems without them being intelligent;
that is AI can proceed without I.
- However, a standard definition of AI is that it involves passing
the Turing test.
- It is not universally agreed but it is widely agreed that:
- a system that can pass the Turing test is Intelligent.
